How to Get a Refund from VietJet Air

여름청춘 2024. 7. 18. 17:48

This is Summer Youth!!!

I'm extremely angry, but I decided to write this post to share my experience of getting a refund after a lot of effort, hoping that it will be helpful to others!

I had booked a one-way ticket from Perth to Incheon, but I had to cancel it due to a change in schedule.

Here’s the important part!!!

Your VietJet Air ticket must either originate from or arrive in Korea!!!

This means that either the departure or arrival location must be Korea.

The reason for this is that it's easier to communicate with the Korean distributor.

Outside of the Korean branch, there really is no solution.

Even if you apply for consultation, you'll only get responses from a chatbot and won’t receive a proper answer.

Anyway, despite the long and arduous process, I'll share with you the quick and simple steps to get a refund.

Here's the link to fill out the refund application.

The most important thing here is to change the language to Korean!

It's at the very top right corner.

Why is this important?

Because only in Korean can you get a refund to the account you paid with.

Otherwise, you will receive a credit shell, which is a credit for future use.

The credit shell cannot be used for changing passengers or names, meaning it can only be used by the same person who booked the original ticket. Additionally, it has an expiration date, which is somewhat acceptable.

However, to use it, you need to book another flight ticket later, submit a credit shell usage application, and go through a lengthy process.

How did I find this out?

I didn’t change it to Korean and ended up receiving a credit shell (damn).

Here’s a summary of the process and the refund story:

When you switch to Korean, section 5 (especially 5.2) appears.

Let's take a look at the English version:

Refunds are only possible with a credit shell (very frustrating).

Of course, if you get a refund to the card you used to pay, the fee is doubled.

If you get a refund via credit shell, 50,000 KRW is deducted per person.

If you get a refund to your payment card, 90,000 KRW is deducted (per segment, meaning twice if there’s a layover).

However, if you don’t know when or where you’ll be traveling next, always get a refund to your payment card!

To learn about the processing steps, make an online consultation inquiry.

For those in Korea, I recommend calling (I couldn't because I was overseas).

Inquiry phone number: 02-319-4560

But for those overseas like me, please use the online consultation site for the Korean General Agency below. They respond quickly and are very friendly.

Accidentally Received a Refund as Credit Shell? Here’s How to Use Credit Shell (Additional Payment)

I hope there are none, but

If you, like me, didn't know how to change to Korean and submitted a refund application in advance, please raise your hand...

Haha, I didn't know this method and ended up getting a refund as a credit shell...

Once you submit a refund application, it cannot be reversed or withdrawn... haha.

And then they explain in great detail how to use the credit shell.

How to Use Vietjet Air Credit Shell

Here are the instructions on how to use the Vietjet Air Credit Shell.

  • For more details on the usage instructions, visit the Vietjet Air reservation and Korean general sales agency website:

http://www.vietjetairkorea.com/info/service_view.asp?sch_tbseq=5206

[How to Use Credit Shell]

  1. Book a new reservation through the original booking channel, using the same currency, and for the same passengers (including exact spelling and spacing of first and last names).
  2. Select "Pay Later" as the payment method during the payment stage.
  3. Request to use the Credit Shell within the payment deadline by contacting Vietjet Air headquarters via one of the following methods:
    • Website: Transfer Request
    • Call Vietjet Air Call Center for faster processing
    • Email Vietjet Air Call Center
※ When using phone/email, make sure to use the contact details provided at the time of booking.
  4. (Important): Once the request to use the Credit Shell is received, a confirmation email will be sent. You must confirm the use of the Credit Shell within 30 minutes of receiving this email.

[Cautions]

  • Reservation hold time after selecting "Pay Later" is approximately 1 hour (only possible up to 24 hours before departure).
  • When requesting to use the Credit Shell through the website, you must submit the usage request within 15 minutes of creating the reservation and verify the request through the received email.
  • If the fare of the new ticket is higher than the Credit Shell amount, you must pay the difference. However, the Credit Shell amount must cover at least 20% of the new ticket fare (50% during peak periods).
  • If the fare of the new ticket is lower than the Credit Shell amount and the Credit Shell account has not expired, the remaining balance can be used for future bookings.
  • Name spellings cannot be corrected after the refund request has been made using the Credit Shell.

[Vietjet Air Headquarters Call Center]

  • TEL: +84 1900-1886 (operates 24/7, international call, initial prompt in Vietnamese)
  • E-MAIL: 19001886@vietjetair.com
  • Chatbot Service: Visit the official Vietjet Air website and click the airplane icon (Chat with Amy) in the bottom right corner.
  • ※ Communication is available in English/Vietnamese. Email responses may take 5-7 business days (approximately ten days), but delays may occur if there are a high number of inquiries.

Information Required When Requesting Usage:

  • Canceled old reservation number
  • New reservation number

Since I was overseas and had difficulty making phone calls,

I booked a flight with the "Pay Later" option and then filled out the online form.

You must process it within 30 minutes after booking, so don't forget! (It’s really troublesome considering I'm trying to use my own money ^^)

https://eforms.vietjetair.com/Callcenter/TransferRequest

You need to know the reservation number of the canceled ticket and the new ticket reservation number.

You'll receive an email!

The email will ask, "Are you sure you want to use the Credit Shell?" If you don't click the confirmation button, submitting the form is meaningless^^

Emails come in both Vietnamese and English, which can be quite confusing ^^

After clicking the confirmation link, the application is finally completed ^^ (Phew... well done, me ㅠㅠㅠ)

I even purchased early check-in to match the credit amount as closely as possible:

  • Amount refunded via Credit Shell: 441.08 USD
  • New flight ticket amount: 443.78 USD

Additional payment amount: 2.7 USD

How to pay the additional amount:

Your new booking number using the Credit Shell, VVVVVVV, is confirmed. After using the entire Credit Shell amount, the remaining balance (1.35 USD per person) is unpaid. Please proceed with the payment via "My Booking" on the Vietjet Air website.

The reservation confirmation for this booking has been sent to your registered email, so please also check your spam folder.

After receiving detailed guidance through inquiries, I found I could make the payment through "My Booking."

Important point: It may appear at the top that you need to pay the full 443.78 USD. However, if you scroll down, you'll see the Credit Shell applied, and you only need to make the additional payment!

This concludes my long and tedious process of canceling, refunding, and rebooking with Vietjet Air ㅎㅎㅎ

Fortunately, the ticket was around 700,000 KRW, and I only lost about 100,000 KRW in the process.
